LEZ
LEZ was a Mexican pop rock band formed in Mexico City in 2016 by writer and columnist Emilio Lezama (guitar, piano, lyrics) and producer Daniel Sandoval (guitar, keyboards, production). Singer Carlos “Balti” Baltazar joined in May 2017. The band's sound drew on 1990s rock and pop.
Their debut album, Vol. 1, was released on August 10, 2018. It was recorded at Babel Audio Lab in Mexico City, produced and mixed by Daniel Sandoval, with Maroon 5 founding bassist Mickey Madden as executive producer. Madden also played bass on the 2019 single Daniela, recorded in Los Angeles. Two songs, Anémona and Ilusionista, originated in songwriting sessions with Julio Ramírez of Reik.
In February 2019 LEZ played Roma Fest in Mexico City's Plaza de la República, the free concert held on the night Alfonso Cuarón's Roma competed at the Academy Awards. Their second album, Salvajes, was released as a series of singles in 2022. Carlos Baltazar died in 2022 and the band ended.
The band was covered by El Universal, Excélsior, Reforma, Milenio and Revista Marvin.
